about me
I am originally from Belgium where my love of theatre and movement sprang from my Belgian and Scottish roots. These artistic roots took me around the world for 15 years and during this time I explored different arts and cultures. I acquired a very broad understanding of what the essential means.
I have been living in Catalonia for the last 9 years where I have been able to develop and express my love for woodwork. After graduating from Emad, Catalonia, in Objects and Furniture Design, I opened my own workshop so that I could shape and tool wood in the way I feel brings out the best in the element.
My workshop is in Sant Esteve d’en Bas, a small village in the beautiful, green and volcanic region of La Garrotxa. Here I produce unique objects and furniture. I use local species of trees when I can and eco-friendly finishes. Wood is being understood as a living material, and is being considered in all it’s stages in order to reach the highest standard of quality.
I use traditional joinery techniques as often as possible in order to perpetuate ancestral traditions. But even more important to me than this is that these traditional techniques guarantee that the very essence of the wood interacts with the mechanics of the joints to ensure strong and long-lasting structures.
Design to me means the unison of aesthetics and functionality. The synergy between the two elevates an object or piece of furniture from a purely utilitarian position to an artistic interpretation of what it is used for. I use modern IT technology to support the creative process by means of technical drawings and 2D and 3D plans.
Thanks to my extensive globetrotting, I am able to discuss your plans and projects in several languages (French, English, Spanish (both Catalan and Castellan), and to a lesser extent in German, Dutch and Italian.
